Egyptian Deserts & Gilf Kebir etc 2011
We are hoping to travel again to the Egyptian western desert / Gilf Kebir/ Great Sand Sea etc etc in Feb / March 2011, taking in some of the more well known sites (wadi sora & possibly karkur tahl again), as well as specifically exploring new areas & going to some places that have probably only been seen by less than a handful of humans in the last couple of thousand years, and with luck making some new discoveries.
This uninhabited area of the Sahara is a Vast & special place.
Is there anybody that would be interested in joining us, with their own vehicle, or my friend can sort out for any travellers who would prefer to travel as passengers in his landcruisers, meeting up with us in Cairo
Obviously the more cars (max 5 though) the more cost effective it would be, I have a very good, trustworthy friend who can organise & obtain the neccesary desert permits, guides & help in dealing with the Egyptian beauracracy etc,
Roughly we are planning on using the Venice to Alexandria ferry, tarmac to Dakhla, then 2 – 2500ks of off road desert, (with no villages, settlements or human habitation) before heading back to Alex for the ferry after up to 4 weeks in Egypt
