Europe: Aug 08
Hey there,
Just thought I'd drop in to see if anyone is going to be in Europe in the first two weeks in August. This is my first time abroad on a motorbike and am venturing into the wide world all on my own, so to anybody who fancies a drink or a chat and is in the area you would provide a most welcome diversion to a lonely traveler.
Here is my proposed route:
Start at the UK then cross to The Netherlands, down into Belgium, across to Germany down through Black Forest, over the Swiss Alps, around the Italian Lakes, along the Med coast to Nice, up past Geneva to Ardennes then take the Tunnel home to the UK.

We are setting off on august 5th, similar route, except we are turning left at italy, heading towards austria.
There is a festival at Konstanz/bodensee on the weeekend 9th-10th august that we will be visiting if you want to say hello.
from experience of european solo travelling, it is very easy to meet folk, the euro's are very friendly on their home turf! go a to a bar in the evening wearing bike clobber, you will be chatting with others within minutes.
When travelling with a partner(going to have to be careful here...) you wont meet as many people, or get to "absorb" the local life in the same way.
The roads tend to be really good. I would suggest you try alpineroads.com for road information. If you have a sports bike, it is really helpful.
Enjoy, you wont regret it.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
