Europe to OZ October '07
Hi,
for October '07 I'm planning my second trip, which would probably take, like the first, about 12 to 14 Months.
The route starts off in Germany and leads to Austria, Slowenia, Croatia, Greece and to Turkey.
Because Pakistan's a bit too dodgy for me, the route takes a bit of Africa now. After Turkey we're heading for Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibuti.
A ferry to Yemen, then Oman and Dubai. Up until now, I found only one (rather expensive freight boat) connection from Dubai to Mumbai. Next stop India, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal.
Since driving in China is not easy, we'll do a visit to China by public transport.
Back from Nepal find a way (maybe flight) to Thailand or Laos. Then Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Timor.
Timor to Australia, Newzealand, Tasmania and a flight back home.
Now I'm looking for travelmates to join the trip (or parts of it).
The goal of the trip will be to get to know people and landscapes on a low- to moderate budget.
You can get a picture of what happened on the last trip at the site: Cairo 2 Cape (sorry, up to now only in german)
The new homepage will be a blogger: Projekt: HalbRum
Btw, does anyone know a way from the east coast Oman/United Emirates to the west coast of India?
Mike

I´m also hoping to do a similar trip at around the same time but departing from the U.K. As I see it, the major stumbling block at the moment for Brits at least is getting an Iranian visa but by next summer/autumn things may have eased up if Bush and Blair keep their sticky fingers in their pockets and let the diplomats do what they are paid to do. Give me an e-mail if you wan´t to discuss plans. Ride safe, and happy New Year.

Hi Mike,
same name, same trip..
you are definatly right, Iran and Pakistan are giving me an headache. Going north of all of it (thru Kaspian see) would probably be extreme interesting but Jan. would be probably pretty cold. Getting down to India won't be easy either.
Saudi Arabia and united Emirates would be an option I would use if no other way is possible.
Do you already have detailed plans? I'm holding out for at least April to get deeper into it.
Hope to stay in contact..
Michael

Off to NZ myself.
Hi Micheal,
I'm heading to NZ leaving from Spain in October sometime as well, however I'll be taking a slightly different route to begin with. My plan is to head down through Algeria, Mali, Giunee, Sierra Leone (where I used to work for the last year). From there follow the coast until I can cut across to the east side of Africa to follow more or less the same route as you. In my opinion, if you're prepared to ride through Yemen, I wouldn't worry too much about Pakistan. I've been to PAK before and was very much welcome there.
I want to leave in October also, but I'm having trouble finding partners to go down through Algeria. Plus I will bw traveling a little bit more rapidly as my time is limited. But lets see what is your new plan.
Cheers,
Cam J.
