European tour from UK

Just putting the feelers out to see if there’s anyone interested in a European tour starting in the UK?

I’m flexible with dates (I took very early retirement) but looking towards the end of August / September. The plan would be not to have a plan but just book ferry / tunnel crossings and see where the road takes us.

Having done this previously I ended up in France, Germany & Switzerland and traveled on many fantastic roads with fantastic scenery. My preference would be to find cheap overnight accommodation (Formula 1’s etc) but would be willing to camp or a mixture of both (although I don’t currently posses a tent etc). I’m not planning to cover massive mileages every day but to enjoy the road, the scenery, the food & culture of the county’s visited.

Another possibility would be to catch the ferry from Southampton to Bilbao and travel back through Spain and France to Calais and cross back to the UK there. I’m open to suggestions of route, time scale and when to depart.

If anyone has some time spare, fancies a trip away (weather should be good at this time of year) and has that feeling of adventure (I know it's not a massive "Horizons" type trip, but you have to start somewhere) then please get in touch and perhaps we can come up with a plan.

Certainly there can be no substitute for travelling with like minded companions and sitting down at the end of the day, in hand reminiscing about the great roads ridden that day.

I live in Kent UK so Dover is an easy channel crossing, if you’re not to far away and would like to meet up and discuss I’m free almost anytime.

I'll keep my eye on this. As we have some much in common. The problem is I have seen these kind of post's before. One or two post and then never see the person again. I'm up in King's Lynn. Do two trip's a year in to Europe. One in the spring and the other in the autumn. If you go south the weather should be good, and out of season the money go a long way.

Jonh, I have been a lurker of this site on and off for many years, as I now have a lot of time available and a Tiger in the garage I thought it time I stopped looking, reading and started travelling.

I would love to hook up with others doing the big "adventure" ride but as yet not had the balls, so I plan on sticking to Europe for the time being.

Are you planning a trip this autumn?

You have caught me at one of them pain in the Azz moment's. I'm off to Papworth this autumn to have some plumbing worked out. They are saying four week total rest and 12 week off of bike and car. So I'm now planning for the spring of next year. If it was not for the hospital I would be away in September.

Have a look at this.

John, Hope it all goes well for you and you're back in the saddle before too long.

Your plans for 2014 look interesting although you don't mention a return route? Be interested to hear more.

I have always noticed with plan's. Is that you end up where you are going. Before that, day's to get to some place is usually is out the window by day three, or you are well off where you thought you would be. Each person douse their own trip different from the next man. What I need to know is how long are you thinking of going out for? I usually look for four week's or more. That's a week there and the same back. With booking a cheap hotel for 14 day's at one place. You can do this on the Internet in the UK. Should cost round £250/300 for the 14 night's. Come's out at about £20 a night. Then ride round and have a look what's about. Then it's a case of planning the way home. If you have money to spare a the end, it's possible to stay out longer.

I'll PM you my phone number. And have a chat some time.

Off to Europe 27th August

Just thought I would throw this in the mix. Myself and the other half are off around Europe again at the end of August, we don't book anything, other than the tunnel crossing, which is on Tuesday 27th August. General idea is to head down to the Alps, France, Belgium, Germany Austria Switzerland, maybe to the South of France and back up the route Napoleon. Mixture of camping, cheap hotels and stopping at relatives I have scattered around France. Stopping anywhere that looks decent. Probably be away for a couple of weeks, but again this isn't set in stone. Anyone interested in riding along all or part of the way, more than welcome.

Hi, We are doing a trip to Africa leaving UK on the 4th Sept and heading down doing a month around Europe first. 3 on bikes, 1 in a Landrover.
Be great to meet up with a few people along the way.
Pretty much up for doing any route, we had planned on camping throughout Europe as much as possible, probably heading in the vague direction of Germany, Austria, Switzerland Etc, across the Alps into Italy back thru France and into Spain and ultimately hopping across to Morocco.

Hi Sezian, I'm in a very similar position as you, retired very early and "living" in Kent. Spend most weekends away on bike in UK over summer but am heading off from September for Europe. First two weeks are travelling with my Dad from his base in Dole, France, where we plan to circumnavigate Switzerland, enjoying all the great scenery without the Swiss hatred of motor vehicles. After that my 'plan' is to watch the weather and stay away from rain as much as possible, maybe heading to Spain as I did last year or maybe going South East this time into Italy or Slovenia.
If you want to join me for part or all of the trip, or even just meet up in Kent for a , just let me know.
