Gionata, Mark's point is we dont know who you are ... even if we did, we cant be sure of your intentions. As Mark points out, what this thread has done is to have collated the names of a lot of relatively vulnerable solo travelling women onto the internet in one place.
Pardon me, but I still don't get the point of putting on a list name and links (public links) already public?

It would be a problem if somebody came here to ask for their home phones and addresses, but you all have simply replied to my question by posting here what the web offers.

I repeat myself: I don't get your point as there is plenty of anonimous male and female riders out here which simply chose not to share / tell / publish their travelling story, but those who do (and that accept donations, comments on blogs and photos) are exposed to everyone's attention. Mine as a writer and other's as trolls or whatever you define them.

Regards.

As I caught up with the various posts, I also had concerns about creating a published list of solo female riders unless you obtain their written permission.
No one here should give you the OK on their behalf.

I agree that whilst riding solo, it is more difficult for women to make contacts and there is an element of safety when in a foreign country. But advertising there is a bunch of women riding the world on their own, is surely putting their personal security at risk.....? JMHO

I am a member of a women's motorcycle club: http://www.wimaworld.com/ and believe there is a need for such support groups but I would be very careful how you publish this list and consider how the information could be abused (unfortunately a sad part of today's society).

Hi Phoenix,
might I ask you what could be the worst case scenario? I mean, what could possibly happen to these female travellers if the "wrong" persona found their list of name?

Regards

partireper, whoever you are:

You can argue and try to convince, but what you've just heard is that at least some people are made quite uncomfortable by what you're doing. You may not find this discomfort reasonable.....but you're you, and your position in the world is different from theirs.

Think about it. Is it your goal to serve these women by providing something they'll value? In that case, there should be no problem whatsoever securing permission from each and every one of them before publishing a list. If they're all in favor, you've lost nothing. But I think the responses you'd get to a query might surprise you.

There is a big difference between listing some books by women, or even links to their websites, and publishing a list headed "Women who motorcycle around the world alone."

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
