If you are still in Lima, I expect to be there shortly.

Hola
I'm now in Arequipa and plan to stay here for a few days to chill out and try to find some bits and bobs for my bike. I'm in no particular rush to go anywhere!

And from Arequipa you are headed.....south into Chile? North to Cuzco? East to Bolivia?
I'll be in Cuzco in two days, probably Arequipa in a week, Bolivia afterwards, then looking for one or more to join me in the desert and salta(s). I'm on a KLR (which is as middle-aged as I am myself), and don't move fast or wake up early.

Hi I think I may be more on Markharf's agenda, I am currently in Mancora and making a fast beeline for Lima at this stage. I am only 1200km from there but have no intention of doing much, Machu Pichu is my next goal, then the road of death Bolivia, I reckon I may like some company along there, but whatever At the pace I reckon I can do I will probably take two days to get to Lima, I will need oil and maybe tyres there, so that means two nights at least.
I may still be a few days behind you though Mark
Cheers

Huaraz tomorrow
Hi we are Graham and Sue heading south to Ushuaia, it looks like there are loads of folks converging on this area at the moment we will be in Nazca in 3 days all been well, no urge to see Lima so will pass straight through. Looking to catch up with some friends a few days ahead of us and would like to hire a 4x4 and guide to take us onto the salar around Xmas. What a white Xmas! Keep your eyes peeled for a couple of guys heading into Lima for Xmas, Phillipe and Obi. We're 2 up on a fully loaded GSA, give us a shout if you're in the neighbourhood and we'll share a .

Hi
It looks like you are one day ahead of me, I will be near that area tomorrow as I expect to cover at least 4-600km, it depends on the roads, but I guess down near the coast, it should be a straightish run, it took me 4 hours to do 200km today amongst the mountains and dirt roads
Cheers

Hi Travellingstrom
The coast road is an easy run we did Chiclayo to Chimbote and were off the bike
for lunch 1'ish, good straight pavement the only problem was the side winds. We're about as aerodynamic as a sheet of plywood but there's nothing to see apart from some impressive barren desert. We found a good spot in Nueve Chimbote just off the PanAm (Remansotravelhotel.com) and a good rest spot before heading out to the Cordillera Blanca and the Canyon del Pato. We should be in Huaraz tomorrow night before returning to the coast and South. Keep in touch I can hear a bottle opening!

Yah, several of us within a couple of days of each other, but lots of independent thinkers thinking independently. Canon de Pato is definitely worth a look--a gorge a hundred meters wide and at least a mile deep with a single lane road threaded through countless tunnels along the edge--though it'd have been more fun without a heavy load. Cordilla Blanca is gorgeous, but the peaks were all obscured by clouds when I was there a couple of days ago. The ride directly from the coast to Huaraz has construction and was closed to all traffic until 6:00 in the evening, which meant I rode several hours in the dark....including where they'd added water to keep the dust down. This part was not fun: exposure, dirt, mud, dust, dark, etc.
But the road south from Huaraz was wonderful: high open tundra followed by a 13,000 foot descent to the sea, all paved and mostly emptied of traffic. Do it!
Further south the crosswinds and sandstorms abate, and I thought Nazca worthwhile. I'm about to leave here for Cuzco, but anyone moving at a rapid clip ought to be able to catch me easily enough.
Travel safe!
Mark

In Lima Now for Xmas - Looking for Tires
In Lima Now for Xmas - Looking for Tires
If anyone has any recommendations for good tires for a Dr 650 for a trip down and back to Ushuaia, please speak up. Also, I need a source in Lima for the tires (or tyres).
If anyone is near and heading down through Chile from here, give me a shout. I'm at the Casa Del Mochileros in Miraflores.
Thanks,
Chris
