Indonesia: From Sumatra to Bali starting now?

Hi fellow travellers!

After two months of travelling by bus and train in India and Malaysia I have a strong urge to continue on a motorbike. As you all know, it really is the best way to travel! Fcuk public transport.

Am now in Banda Aceh in the north of Sumatra, Indonesia and want to travel through Sumatra to Java and possibly end in Bali. I have at least six weeks on my current Visa but am able to extend it.

Don't have a motorbike yet as I'm not sure I want to do the whole stretch on my own. Is there anyone willing to join up or already planning a similar trip that I could join?

you might find it challenging to buy a bike in indonesia as a buleh (foreigner), renting one locally in bali/lombok shoudnt be much of a problem...

if you make it to lombok, give me a shout.

Sumatra to Bali

Hi,it soundslike that you completed the ride from North to Sth Sumatra by bike and into Bali. I am just about tocross over to Sumatra (Medan) and I would be grateful if you could give me some indication how long it could take me to do the stretch from Medan to the Ferry to Java.
regards,
Alex

You can do it in only a few days, but what's the rush? You are in one of the most beautiful and interesting parts of the world and you want to hurry to get out of there?

We spent 6 weeks on Sumatra alone.

bike buying

Let me know how the bike buying goes. I would love to do that trip by bike. I've done it a couple times by public transport already, but by bike would be awesome.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
