Join us on a non-commercial overland trip throughout Africa
We're looking for travel buddies for an overland trip around the entirety of Africa! Our proposed route is from the UK to Morocco and down the west coast of Africa to South Africa, and then back up the Great Rift Valley through Eastern and Central Africa, and finally on to Egypt.
We're aiming to leave London around October 2008, and take 5 to 6 months to get to South Africa (arriving South Africa late March 2009), before leaving South Africa for the return leg late April 2009, and reaching Cairo some 5 to 6 months after that. So all-in-all it's looking to be a 12 month trip.
So far there are 4 of us - 2 on motorbike and 2 in a 4x4 overland campervan truck. We're all in our late 20's, early 30's.
Ostensibly this trip is about having fun, exploring off the beaten track and experiencing the culture and beauty of Africa. However, we are also hoping that at the same time we can raise more awareness around the AIDS pandemic that is systematically destroying the African way of life. To this end we have teamed up with two charities, HOPEHIV and HandzUp, which we have chosen as our cause. During our expedition we hope to visit some of the projects these charities run in Africa to see the great work they are doing, while before the expedition we hope to do some fund-raising so as to help these charities with their projects.
If you'd like to join us on this trip of a lifetime, please get in contact with us. This is not a commercial venture. All we're looking for are travel buddies. You'll need to provide your own vehicle, and be able to provide the necessary funds to get you through Africa and keep you fed and watered! You'll have to be easy-going, open-minded and able to cope with the stresses that Africa will invariably throw at you.
