July, 2001 Alaska adventure tourers meet

I am looking for adventure tourers who would like to meet with others to celebrate reaching the end of the road and Jim Clark's 68th birthday at Deadhorse, Alaska July 12, 2001. Jim and his son will be riding KLR650s. Let's make Deadhorse(Northern end of the road)like the annual Ushuaia(Southern end of the road) Christmas gathering. If you are going to Deadhorse in 2001, coordinate it with other like minded folks with common interests in the land of the midnight sun. I'll be there with my Yorkie "Punky" on a Kawasaki KLR650. Hope to see you there. Punky and I will be riding all over North & South Americas 2001-2003. Watch for us in your neighborhood.

I'm looking for advice on the best time to reach Deadhorse this next summer 2001. Is early july a good time, or better early August? Planning on riding solo on a soon to be KLR 650 coming from Portland, Oregon.

My partner and I will begin our two-year adventure around the world this summer riding our 883 Sportster's.
Yes, would love to meet you in Deadhorse on July 12th, and/or ride with you on the Dalton Hwy to get there. We will be heading south after that, planning to arrive in Ushuaia by New Years eve 2001.
Please contact us to set up the ride in Alaska.

I will be arriving in Seattle from Spain on July 4 and I will try to make it to Deadhorse for the meeting. After that I will drive my R1150GS to Ushuaia trying to get there around January 2002.

See you on the road

Jose

I will be reaching Fairbanks on July 4th. Plan to leave for Deadhorse on the 6th. Riding a cruiser (2000 Honda Sabre) from Chicago. Can someone who has ridden to Deadhorse tell me if riding a non dual purpose bike, especially a cruiser, to Deadhorse is advisable. If not I might rent a GS or KLR in Alaska.

Inuvik in the Northwest Ts is a much better destination. At least you'll arrive somewhere that you can have a pint and the views on the Dempster Hwy are much much better than those on the Haul road up to Deadhorse.
I live in Alaska and few roads around here offer the beauty you see from the Dempster in Canada. So if you want to party. Inuvik is the place to have it.

Seems like Inuvik wil be more of a scenic trip, than a 'i did deadhorse' one.

We plan on doing both.

Cheers,
Carl

This summer, I rode both the Dempster Highway to Inuvik and the Dalton Highway to Deadhorse. I found the Dempster to be slightly more difficult, but a lot more enjoyable. The town of Inuvik is worth visiting on it's own merits. A pretty good camp ground and good food. This is a real town!
