Karakorum Highway in October 2012
Hi All, at first I want to introduce our self. We are a Swiss couple (Nicole 30, Roy 34) and we are traveling by Landcruiser through the silk road.
Check our webside if you are interested to read more about our trip: Nicky & Roy's travelblog - globeXplorer
Beginning of October (around 9th) we like to enter China from Kyrgistan, Turgart boarder and want to drive the Karakorum Highway to Pakistan. We are wondering if we can find any other overlander who like to join us for this nice trip. We like to share the costs for the very expensive China Visa & Permits. We got some offers for around USD 3000.-.
At the moment we are in Tajikistan and drive the Pamir Highway.....so lovely
Looking forward to meet you guys
Cheers
Roy & Nicole

Hi Dave, our friend has crossed tha lake with a boat in April or May 2012 with his Landcruiser and an Iveco 4x4 bus which is even bigger has joined him on the boat(s). I saw a picture of the transport....it looks a bi risky but I think its' still possible to cross the lake with cars.

cross the lake is possible
Hi Dave
Our friend from Pakistan has send me following mail including pictures of the transport by boat. It seems those guys really knwo hot it works. The also load trucks on boats etc....read following e-mail:
"Hi Roy&Nicole,
Yes i can imagine to look at it seems very risky and scary. But that how the local and we do.But choice always you. This is just to make it cheaper.now local boat guys have become quite expert to carry vehicle up and down, even they take big truck aswell.I can see your land cruiser in the picture.it would not be a problem. Height is no problem.they load on the boat lot more then land cruiser weight.Last year in Sep i took 3 big cruising up to Khunjerab top for my Chines client.I am uploading few pictures for you here.I think your one is not more then this.I upload one pic of Army raft as well.infect it is lot bigger and more safer too. But expensive.Their is only one army raft.to hire army raft you need a permition from the local deputy commissioner office.and the party have to provide the fuel one day earlier from the arrival to Hussani port. At that case some one else need to help you.otherwise you have to leave your land cruiser at the lake come down to Karimabad hunza to get permition.it gonna takes about 2 days.If possible after my Sep trip i will update you by latest information with pictures as well.
Regards,
Ayub"

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
