London to Cape town Come along

Hello every body, this trip will start from London and end in Cape Town on or around Ocktober 2010 and yes it will be over land, this trip will be open to every and any body willing to come and enjoy the road, the bush, the 4X4 experience and the need to explore.

So far it will be me (Peter-James Lennox) my wife (Nicolette Lennox). We will be travelling in a Toyota Hilux HL3 3.0D Double Cab Pickup. If you need help in finding a vehicle I can help.
We will only be staying in one or two maybe three hotels, the rest of the time we will be camping out side under the stars.

We will be using maps and GPRS to get where we need to go; if you or anybody you know has reliable maps that can be use just give me a call.

This trip will be a 4X4 only trip as Africa can be an unforgiving place or if you want to bring a bike all is welcome.

The route
The route is more or less planned but we are open to suggestions and willing to go the extra mile in a different direction if there is something to see or do, so keep an open mind.

The trip will start at my house in London, Weybridge. From there we will drive about 2 days to Genova Italy, then we take a ferry to Tunisia.

We land in the port of Tunis which take approximately 23hrs and that will be the easy part of the route. From there we drive to Kairouan, Tozeur, Douz, Matmata, Sabrather, Tripali, Lepeis, Magna, Benhazi, Gyrene, Apolania, Tokruk, Marsa, Matruh, and Alexandria and then in to Cairo

We then head into Cairo in Egypt, once there we will take a break and explore all the wonders we can. Then it is off to Sudanand this is where it will get rough.
From there it will be Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, and then South Africa where our first stop will be on a friend’s farm in Upington. Here we will decide what road to take to Cape Town which is about a day away, from here the drive will be quick and effortless to my house in Cape Town.Just drop me a line p.jl@hotmail.co.uk

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
