No I'm not shipping, I will be driving, but my friends are shipping. For them it was the bureaucracy and security like you say, plus they have no carnet. There is the safety in Nigeria, then the visa hassle in DRC and Angola, so by shipping they jump 3 hurdles at once.
I wouldn't wanna miss out on Cameroun and Congo, although it will be hard. For the moment we don't know who is going to be first in South Africa, it could go either way. Time will tell what the best decision was.

France to Capetown Oct 2012
Hey guys
We are an english couple, planning a trip down AFrica - hopefully all the way to Cape Town but definitely down the west coast of Africa at least to Ghana- how far we get depends on how much money we have saved by then. We'll be working France this summer and plan to leave France for Morocco in Oct 2012. Interesting to hear about plans to ship from Accra past Angola and DRC as we've read its almost impossible to get visa for Angola. Happy to meet up, ride part of way in Africa. Keep us updated on your plans.

Hi Bruce, I am well into the planning stages of a West route Cape Town to London departing Oct 2012, hopefully arriving home late December 2012 or early Jan 2013. I have planned the route, costings ect.
I had a potential 4 HU companions who have become very good friends of mine but due to various reasons these guys have dropped out one by one. I have an uncertain riding partner who is still to make up her mind. It may be worth reading my thread and web page to see if this is a route/direction you maybe interested in.
Due to our similar timings, this could be a good opportunity for us both.
Where do you live
Best Regards, Tommy?

Travelling Africa in late 2012/2013 too.
Hi Guys,
WE are currently in Bolivia making our way upto Alaska and will be shipping to Europe in September 2012. We are going to make our way South into Northern Africa and will be attempting to cross Libya into Egypt and South, mainly down the East side if anyone is interested in hooking up with us.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
