If a guy, let's say me for example, was interested in getting a KLR trailered down to wherever it'll be warm as part of your journey from Chicago, who would he talk to from your group? I see from the posts that you've got an Ontario rider as part of the clan. I live in Ottawa. Yeah, it's that city halfway between Montreal and Toronto. I'd be with you all for the ride in a heartbeat but I can't get away until early January. On the upside, I don't have a specified return date and hope to make my way to Costa Rica for a surprise visit on my daughter. We know how much they like that.
I'm envious. You gotta luv it when a plan comes together like it appears to be for this trip.

Detroiter on a 640 Adv too SA bound!
I'm leaving Detroit thuesday the 11th with bike in tow for Houston where I will then leave my truck there for 4 months. I am SA bound, but will still like to tag along for a bit of Mexico.
I planned on camping! No hostels or hotels... Lots to talk about... Heres my ride report on Advrider.co. DETROIT/Patagonia - ADVrider Go to last page...
I was hoping to hug the Gulf coast down to Central America. If anyone else reads this post drop me a dime at 313-909-9343 and we'll meet up.

VStrom or KLR
Mike,
I wish I'd seen this earlier. My buddy and I rode through Mexico last winter, he on a KLR and me on my Wee Strom. Both handled the ride beautifully though I wish both of us were on Stroms. The vast majority of the roads are really good and the stroms top end speed is so much faster than the KLRs. With so many things to slow you down it would've been nice to be able to open it up on the roads which would allow it.
Let me know what you choose to take and how it went. Shayne

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
