Mongolia -> Europe Spring 2011

I'm riding West from Mongolia starting as soon as it warms up out there. I'm currently in SE Asia and will ship to either UB or Vladivostok in the spring.

Anyone else going to be heading that direction at that general time? I'm traveling solo but prefer to travel in a small group.

I'm riding a 2006 Suzuki DRZ 400 S. You can read more about my lack of plan here: daveg travels

I will be at the Oasis guest house in Ulaanbaatar Mongolia during May 2011. I will be heading northwest to Scandinavia then south to Frankfurt Germany by the end of August. I will stay on graded and paved roads, camp and cook when I can. Last year in Russia I found the truck stop hotels cheap enough but some were bad and I was more comfortable in my tent.
I'm riding a BMW F650GS dual sport.
I will stay in touch with you.

ack! I forgot about this post. My plan has changed.

I'm now heading the other way because I want to ride Road of Bones and some more rugged stuff in Mongolia. I don't want to wait around until August for when the water level is low enough so I'm shipping to Europe and driving EAst now like everyone else. I guess there is a reason why everyone else does it that way

I'll start leaving the Europe area probably early June / late May. I'm not sure really, I'm entirely flexible.

Maybe cross paths

I normally go out of my way to travel alone, after initial events of my last journey, "The Americas 2007" maybe it's hardly surprising now. It would be nice to keep in touch with some other motorcyclists doing Mongolia/Central Asia this summer.

I set off late May early June and do a very convoluted route through Russia, Mongolia, the 'Stans', into China and Tibet (end Aug), exit to Laos (end of Sept). I don't do cities or hotels too often, but would be nice to share the occasional .

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
