Need info on ride from Holland to Vladivostok
Hi everyone,
I just booked my airline ticket, and will be arriving in Europe to pick up my VStrom on May 6. I am going to ride from Holland to Vladivostok, and then take the ferry to South Korea and on to Japan. From Japan I will fly my motorcycle and myself to Canada.
I know I need Visas for myself, but what do I need to take my motorcycle across Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and into South Korea and Japan? Carnet? International Drivers license? Registration for motorcycle? Insurance?
Is there anyone out there who has done this route and could give me information? Also, I might be agreeable to having someone else join me on this trip.

Hi Ron,
I have the similar route in my mind.
How time do you have for this part?
I could join you, let's see.

For Japan, you might need a carnet unless you enter by ferry from Korea.
However, air freight from Japan is VERY expensive. If you are dead set on flying, you might want to send it from Korea instead.

Thanks guys
Hi Djimny:
I don't have my dates written in stone. All I know is that I arrive in Frankfurt on May 10 and go that afternoon to Heidelberg to get my motorcycle. I will ride to Enschede on May 11 to visit my daughter for a few days. After that, I am totally flexible on both route and time. I would like to go to Saint Petersberg and from there to Moscow. After that, I will just start working my way toward Vladivostok. If you want to join me we should talk a little first. Why don't you email me at ryoungs2kayak@gmail.com
Chris -- thanks for the heads up on Japan.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
