Talking Off-road riding in SW England

This doesn't seem quite the right place to put this thread, but I couldn't find a better one.

I live near Bristol in the UK, and I'm interested to see if there's anyone in the area that's interested in some off-road riding.
I've ridden most of the green lanes in this area, and would like to team up with some HU folks for a ride-out sometime. I'm no expert, or motocross racer, but I hopefully won't hold anyone up.

So if you live in this area, or will be passing through anytime soon, give me a shout, and maybe we can give it as shot.
I ride a gasgas EC300, but may take my XR650 if it's looking like more of a road biased ride.

HI Gabriel

That sounds like a bit of a plan we are in Bournemouth and have done most of the lanes round here so if we could get together we could show you some new stuff down this way a you could show us round up your neck of the woods

I won’t be able to go for a month or so because of work and I’m off to the Alps in June for 10 days but I will drop you a line when we get back
I ride an XT600 and my Son has a DRZ400
I ride like the old git that I am and my son rides in the normal manner of the youth of today i.e. flat out every where

Sounds good, get in touch when you're free..

Bob that sounds spot on, be good to do some new lanes, the ones round here are getting a bit old.
I'll grab the work van, and make a day of it. You're more than welcome up here, there's more than enough to keep us entertained for a day.

I think I might fit in quite well between your leisurely pace, and your sons race spirit.

Did you come up for the pub meet in Blagdon? I'm sure there were a few people from Bournemouth.

Anyhoo, enjoy the alps. Any chance you're doing the HUMM this year, I was thinking it'd be nice to meet some other folks on the way down somewhere.

Blagdon meeting

No Bob did not ride upto Blagdon, I used to off road with Bob but I do not have an off roader at the moment. I rode up to Blagdon with a couple of freinds, it was a good day out, I hope they do the camping weekend that they were talking about.

Anyway hope your trip down to Bournemouth comes off.

Colin.

camping weekend

Colin, I remember you I'm sure, neckerchief and a.. KTM?

We are doing the camping weekend we were talking about, the HU page will go up tomorrow, announcing dates.

Charlotte and I are still in the process of sorting details out, but we've got a location and marquee. We hope to see you there!

You could try joining the Honda Trail Bike club (a.k.a. XRV Club). In addition to a forum specifically for the Honda XR650, they also get together occasionally for off-road rides.

Hi I'm over in Malmesbury and get out quite often either locally or over around the Ridgeway and over to Lambourn or down to the Plain.

You show me yours and I'll show you mine

Thanks for the tip Dee Duble Yuh, I had a look at the XRV forum, and it looks like a good resource for XR info. I'm not so keen to join a club for some reason, and I just thought it'd be good to ride with some people with a common interest of overlanding.

Dirtlover, you've got a deal. I've not been up towards malmesbury much, although I have done some of the fosse way, which was pretty good.

Give me a shout when you're free to come down this way, or suggest a date for an outing up your neck of the woods?
Maybe we could get a few more people, and embarrass ourselves in more of a group scenario?
Do you know many off road people in your area?

I suppose I meant "enrol on the site" (like you did to post here). Enrolling allows you post suggstions for ride dates and so on. There's no membership fee or nothing!

Sounds good

I'm working away for a week or so now, but I've been out quite a bit recently, and it's always good to meet new folks for a ride. Not in a rude way.

We just went to a local quarry this weekend, which you would have been welcome to join in on. I'll do a post on this thread when I'm next heading out, and if any of you are about then come along.

I also go up to Tommys farm every now and then, which I think is superb for a bit of muddy fun. If anyone else is interested in this, maybe that could be a good weekend.

Thanks for the email Frosty, I'll give you a shout when I'm back from Manchester, and we'll do some trails..

New Devotee of Offroading

Hi guys,

I recently got my motorcycle licence at the grand old age of ...um.... well, late thirties almost immediately followed by my first offroad trip to Namibia, a few injuries (courtesy of all that soft sand), but absolutely loved it. I'm in the middle of the big smoke (London) - and would love to find some trails to do - obviously don't want to travel for hours and hours to get there - so if any of you are nearer London, know where to go, and fancy a Saturday or Sunday rolling your eyes at my cautious and slow progress - but inevitable grin of delight - let me know.

Hello Jupiter,

I would be happy to take you out in Surrey / Hants. Can put together an easy short day on some pretty trails or something more challenging.

What bike do you ride ?
