Riding buddy for Africa
Hi there
Looking for a riding buddy (age doesn't matter, as long as you take things with a smile and think positive) for the African continent. A person with eager for adventures, and a heart for the African continent and its people.
Start in the beginning or mid of March, 2010, taking the ferry from Algeciras, Spain to Tanger, Morocco or to Ceuta.
Expected duration is 3 months.
Route: (Westcoast)
Morocco
Western Sahara (Morocco)
Mauritania
Senegal
Mali
Burkina Faso
Ghana
Togo
Benin
Nigeria
Cameroun
Gabon
Congo
DRC
Namibia
South Africa
Or alternate going down the coast through:
Gambia
Guinee
Sierra Leone
Liberia….
About me:
I am riding a Honda VFR from 1996, and have been travelling since start of May 2009, when I left Denmark. (In Spain at the moment, preparring the bike and papers). I am 31 years old and capable of doing all nessasary repairs myself.
I was in Africa in September-October, but had to return from Dakar, Senegal due to illness (Lariam pills). (Ever since I haven't been able to forget about this fascinating continent). I have experience with procedures of Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal. Border crossings, visa, good places to stay etc...
I have contacts in:
Mauritania Nouadhibou
Senegal, Dakar
Gambia, Banjul
Nigeria, Lagos
We will camp in the nature, stay at cheap camping sites, hostels, motels, hotels and friends places on our way down.
Send me a PM if you are up for adventures you would remember for the rest of your life!
Hope to hear from some of you. Lets have a great trip down the dark continent...

In Gambia
If any of you come through The Gambia, I live here and am happy to host/help out/perhaps even ride part of the journey. I'm familiar with the area, including Mali.

Sorry I have just seen your reply now. I will write down your information. Currently it looks like I might have a riding companion from UK, who will drop by Palma del Rio, Spain on his way down. I hope he will be able to leave around Marts 2010.
I thank you very much for your invitation + company. If I/we come in the area, I/we will deffinately give you a call to get a etc.
I have contact to the Danish people owning the Lemon Creek hotel in Banjul which I have promised to visit if I come by.
Happy New Year

Hi
I was looking to travel East to Nepal in March but am having problems with getting through China cheaply. Africa might be a nice alternative!
Will you be riding or flying back from South Africa?
W!

Hi W
Thanks for your reply.
I will ship the bike to South America after Africa and continue my journey there. I would have loved crossing the Atlantic Ocean by ship/boat too instead of flying.
The Eastern way sounds amazing too.
Kind regards

Cool.
BTW I understand that the cost of shipping and airfreight are not much different when you account for all the various agents/handlers/ customs etc etc.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
