Riding to Mexico from Victoria BC in Feb

I plan to ride 101 to San Diego and then cross into the Baja. I will have to ride according to the weather. I would like company and a little guidance crossing the Mexican border.

When in Feb were you planning on crossing the border?
I will be in Arizona the end of Feb and plan to enter Mexico but not Baja.
I believe you require no TVIP for baja so the crossing will be easy.
If you want to go into mainland Mexico, get your permit on line before you go ,I have done this and it only takes 3 days to arrive from Mexico city to Calgary.
Let me know your plan if you decide to hit the mainland, I have riden in Sonora alot and down to C.A. Will be there for March and April for sure on my F650gs.

It will all depend what the weather is like on the way down the coast as to when I will cross to Baja. If it is good I think the first weekend. I have no firm plans. I think I will be going to mainland Mexico the middle to end of March so I will need a permit for that. Is it easier to get it from here that early? I am on an 07 F650 GS. Good bikes....

Sounds like maybe you will be taking the ferry across? If you are not sure on the dates just get the permit at the border or ferry crossing no big deal. By the middle of March I should be in Guatemala and will be riding back up from Panama by the middle or end of April.
Mines a 2007 also 30000kms 18000 in C.A. last winter. Watch your water pump weep hole as mine started to leak at 23000kms ,it was fixed under warranty. Steering head bearings had to be changed then also ,I did that my self and I will be greasing the swing arm bearings when I arrive in Mexico.
Saludos y bien viaje!

Good luck!

Good luck to both of you - I'm sure they'll both be great trips.
My wife and I are riding two-up from Phoenix to Veracruz, leaving Feb 12th.
It's unlikely we'll cross paths because of the different areas we're riding in but I'll keep an eye on this BB just in case
Cheers

Re: Travel through Mexico

My brother-in-law and I are leaving Toronto on Feb. 10 and expect to be throughout Mexico for a week from the 15th to the 22nd, on our way to Costa Rica. We are heading down the Gulf Coast and cutting over to the Pacific side south of Veracruz. If anyone's around let us know and we can meet up. We're both on F800's.

I'm hoping to cross into Mexico myself somewhere near the middle of March after riding down from Victoria. I have an open itinerary and about 2 months or a bit more. I'm also on a 2007 F650GS.

I am in Arizona now and plan to cross into Mexico around the 12th of March.
Then ride south with not much of a plan, last year I rode to Guatemala.
F650 Gs 2007 also. Will be in Ciudad Chihauhau for a few days and then probably ride the east coast, are you planning central america also?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
