San Francisco to South America
Jonny here.
At the end of the month, I'm leaving with a couple friends from San Francisco, CA into Mexico and Central America. We have no definite plans other than catching a boat to Colombia November 16th.
From Colombia onwards, I'm on my own. And my goal is to head as far south as possible and end up in Valparaiso/Santiago, Chile mid-December. My plans are loose but I've always wanted to see the Fitz Roy (as I'm enamored by beautiful mountains and rock formations). I have 3.5 weeks.
I'll be in Bogota, for a couple days and them I'm off. A general layout in my mind is to travel through Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and finally ending in Valparaiso/Santiago, Chile to fly back home. I know this is a lot in a little time. But we shall see how things unravel.
I would love to have some company for parts of my ride, meet awesome people and acquire some good information on where I can get some synthetic 10w50 motoroil, tires (90/90 x 21; 15/70 x 18), fun routes etc. There's still much preparation but with the right mindset all will unravel nicely.
I'm looking to hearing from you all. Please share experiences with me.
Best,
Jonny

Hello Jonny,
I am in Oaxaca at the moment and have a date with the Stahlratte on Nov. 17th. Keep an eye out for a red KLR with B.C. plates. Love to have a chat.
Regards, Mike.

Hello Uli,
You are not far behind us. We are in Copan, Honduras. In Antigua stop in at the Moto Cafe for information and a chat, 6a Calle Oriente, #14 Antigua. Cross into Honduras at the the El Florido border crossing. This the crossing for Copan. It is a quiet crossing and the officials were pleasant and helpful. Take some patience with you as it is a slow process. These are the fees: a few dollars to leave Guatemala, $3.00 to enter Honduras and $36.00 for the bike. Even the money changers gave a good rate. See you on the 17th or sooner. Happy travels,
Regards Mike

Thanks for the info mike - i will give the Moto Cafe a try - but will most likely stay 2 nights in Antigua as I would like to do a one day trip to Tikal.
After that I will rush trough Honduras and Nicaragua - maybe catch you then.
I am thankfull for all tips and hints you have for me - bordercrossing into guatemala at Talisman was quite a experience now - although everything went fine and I did not pay any helpers - just took some hours
Will wirte you a PN.
Cheers,
Uli

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
