South America start in Chile December 2018

Hey guys

not sure if there is anybody out there who want's to join. I will go on another trip through South America in December and start in Valparaiso. I live in Australia, originally from Germany and will ship my bike from Brisbane to Valparaiso.

From there I'm planing to see a stage of the Dakar in Peru beginning of January, and make my way to the north of Argentina, where I want to visit Mendoza etc. and slowly cut across to Bolivia, possible Paraguay into Brazil again

I did a big part of South America in 2016/17 but want to see more of Brazil. My plan is to ride up the coast to Belem and take a boat across the Amazon river to Manaus, from I take another boat down to Porto Velo and take the road into Peru again.

Final destination will be Alaska at some stage, but not sure when that will be. So if someone feels like joining for a bit or part of the journey let me know.
The bike I will take is a Honda CRF 250L, my last one was a V-Strom 650 but this time I will go light.

Safe travels

Mario

Hey,

I can highly recommend South America, I only came back from there last year in June and spent 7 month there in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. It was incredible and I want to visit some more places there and carry on north to central America and Mexico and the goal later is to reach Alaska. The bike I'm taking next will be a CRF250

Hi Les,

I probably will use an agent in Cairns again who I used already twice before. There are lots of options, haven't checked who is in Brisbane to ship with. In Chile I have an agent already, which I used in November 2016 already.

He will charge USD $250. The cost to get it there from Brisbane is around AUD $1000 I guess. Where are you from?
You can also contact me via e-mail on mariolicht@gmx.net

FWIW -At Christmas I shipped a KLR 650 from Sydney to Chile. I never found any quote any where near $1000. In the end paid about $2300 including crating for air freight to Santiago. No customs agent was needed at the Chile end - getting it out of the airport warehouse was easy and took about 3 hours.

Sea freight to Valparaiso would have been a few hundred dollars cheaper. The down side of sea freight was you lose your bike for 6-8 weeks in transit plus I was told you do need a customs agent so the savings would probably have been minimal in the end.

For info I shipped with Bikes Abroad - a web search will find their details - and was very happy with the service

Hi Martin,

not sure about that, but I never paid that type of money for sea freight and I shipped already 3 times in the last few years. My last shipping was from Germany to Valparaiso and I paid 900 Euro, total cost including all charges on the other end.
