So.....?
I live in a place where I commonly ride to the Mall and to Starbucks and to the grocery store, etc.
In fact, I spend more time riding around town, than I have spent riding out into the wilds. And so what? Should I buy a special bike- without panniers and a GPS mount- and keep it shiny, so people (like you?) don't laugh when I park at Starbucks?
I don't get this, at all. I know a lot of people who have ridden to some distant places, but I've never heard anyone claim a trip to the Mall as an 'adventure'.
(Maybe I totally missed the point. I think I've had too much caffeine this morning. )

Starbucks ADV RIDERS
When entrant # 9 (D2) and # 555 (D1) started across SE Asia last year they asked themselves, "How and where would a 21st Century dashing and daring adv rider kick off their stage in the adventure rally?"
The photograph below is worth the proverbial 1,000 words, and both D1 and D2 are still laughing and not taking themselves too seriously, which they claim keeps them young.

Starbucks to the Mall? Yeah, had a go at it last year but failed miserably. Still working out where it all went wrong with my councillor but I recon it was stopping off at Dunkin Donuts that did it. The drive-thru line just went on and on and I got worried I'd run out of fuel and be stranded with nuthin to eat or drink. It doesn't get much worse than that.
Anyway, I'm writing a book about my experience so anyone following on can learn from my mistakes. Loads of pictures in it 'cos, as we all know, without pictures it didn't happen. Ride safe now.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
