Trip Through Mexico - want to join?
Hello and thank you all for sharing awesome information.
i am heading to Guatemala City, Through Mexico, I want Mexico to be a fast pass by, as on the return I will probably spent more time.
My trip starts Dec 1, 2017 for about 20 days.
I plan a 600 miles day in The USA and about 300 daily in Mezico.
I can adjust that if anyone interested in joining.
i will be crossing the boarder from Texas, maybe Laredo or Brownsville, I kindly need a suggestion about boarder Crossing and fastest and safest highways to cross Mexico to La Mesilla border with Guatemala.
thank you again
Luiz

Hey Luiz,
I did this this exact trip in the summer of 2010. I would say that the fastest way down is going through Brownsville and then taking 190 along the coast. If you want to go through DF the 180 is also quite good. Both are 4-lane major toll roads with little traffic (at least when I went). Some people would drive 80-100 mph. I remember that the tolls weren't incredibly cheap. It could have been $100-200 in tolls round trip. La Mesilla was a pretty easy border with a lot of foot traffic. Probably a good idea to go through mid-day. I would give yourself at least 5 days of travel from the Texas border to Guatamala City. You should definitely stop in Vera Cruz and San Cristóbal. I think there is generally less rain in the Winter, but over the summer in Guatamala there were a lot of road closures for mudslides. I had to backtrack a few times.
My trip lasted about 6 weeks. I sort of meandered on the way down stopping for several days in the big cities. I was able to do the round trip (along to coast) back to Virginia in about 7 days.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
