UK to Morocco (April/May)

I'm heading to Morocco on April 10th to May 4th (flexible).

I've the route sorted which basically is straight through France & Spain, keeping off the France motorways where possible (this takes 3 days riding). Hop over to Ceuta then a planned route that may change; a combination of recommended routes and trails I've got from other Moroccan explorers.

Most cities and "tourism" areas will be avoided with an emphasis on exploration of the beaten track. I'll work my way down to Merzouga and then head west, doing some sand riding (which will be new to me).

If anyone wants to join on this "Mondo Enduro" style trip my only precursor is that you're chilled out

Accommodation will be camping and cheap hotels every few days (see what happens). The only thing to look at for who ever comes is carrying enough water and fuel to do the west hop from Merzouga.

I ride a fully kitted out DRZ400 "Adventure". I'll be taking extra wheels with me to swap to off-road tyres at south of Spain. The routes can be done by most bikes (especially with friends around) though I suspect 1150GSA's might find sand difficult.

Cheers, Andrew

Although this route looks pretty remote on the map there's a few stop off points where you'll be able to pick up fuel, water and food. We did the route last April, me on a KTM950 and my mate on a 1150GSA. It took a while to drag them through the sand section in Er Ramilia, but once through that bit it's flat out all the way to Tagounite.

Hello Snoopy,

I'd be really interested to see what you've done to "Adventurise" your Dr. Zed.

We going to hit Moroc either late this year or early next on enduro bikes so any tips would be great.

Hi, Snoopy,

I would be interested to know your route through France and Spain, keeping off most of the toll roads.

All the best

Graham

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
