I'm wanting to do this next year. I live on Vancouver Island. I hope you can post details on your trip. How do you plan on doing the Darien Gap?

We are exploring options for the Darien Gap.

We will definitely post details of our trip and might even do a travel blog.

I'll be on the stahlratte to cross the darien but I think you may be coming through a bit late. Last sailing for the year is mid November I believe. I have heard some talk of a ferry running semi-regularily though.

Stahlatte

Last sailing is Nov 27 out of Panama.(I'm on that sailing) I checked earlier this week they still had room, on both sailings in Oct & Nov. You should get on it, not sure how busy it is that time of year.

You could ride through it.....if you had the time and skills. I've been North to South, and South to North on 4 separate roundtrip rides, and while it is generally a good idea to use the Stahlratte, or one of the other ships, one can have their bike flown from Panama to Cartegena, or.....on one of the roundtrips, we did actually do the ride through the Gap. It was an experience, but with the right bike, and good skills, you can do it.

Lucky for me I was on a '03 Africa Twin 750, which was a lot more serious off-road bike than the new Africa Twin 1000s.

I'm not sure, there are other sailboats apparently. Or flying the bike.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
