Vladivostok to Europe - mid 2010 - seeking travel buddies :)

Hello all

My name is Chris. I live in Melbourne Australia, and have a great love of adventure travelling.

Im currently planning a motorcycle adventure tour of Russia for 2010. The plan is to ride from Vladivostok to Europe, incorporating Mongolia and Scandinavia. The ride would take no longer than 6 months stopping to smell the flowers (could be done easily in half that time), and 25,000km to complete.

If you are reading this, and you are interested in completing part, or all of the trip, please contact me! Also if you are planning a similar trip, please contact me, perhaps we could complete part of our trips together.

Some preliminary details:
Leaving mid 2010 (target of mid May for planning purposes)
6 month multiple entry business visas to be acquired for Russia
Shipping quotes for a single motorcycle, Melbourne to Vladivostok obtained <$3000AUS (no return bike transport arranged so far)
Not much else! And all is open to change

Please contact me here (I may be slower to respond), or email me russia2010<at>easypc.net.au

Chris

Planning for a 2-up ride from NSW to Darwin, then S/E Asia ( Singapore or Malaysia entry ) , Vietnam, China then Mongolia. Decide which way then... soo many options !.. but looks like being back into China and the Old Silk road, Tibet and Nepal, then pickup Alexanders path.

Leaving early March to catch the end of the Wet season, then be in Mongolia early Summer ?.

Keen to find other travellers going in either direction so please keep in touch and a anywhere would be great !

Cheers !

Into China from Vietnam

Hi,
I'm keen to travel North through the rough-centre of China, by entry from Northern Vietnam heading for Kumming ( quite spectacular I'm told ). I understand this border point is now open, but unsure of vehicle entries.

To clarify this I have an agent I have used on a few visits to China looking into it for me, including other issues regards riding / insurances / access to Tibet etc. From feedback I'm quietly confident.

I'll keep in touch and look forward to the !

Frank

G'Day Chris,

Three or four of us are looking to ship our bikes from Sydney to Vladivostok and head west to Europe via the Stans. We plan to leave Vlad about the first week in May 2010. We can fit about 6 to 8 bikes in a 20 foot container, by far the cheapest way to get them to Vladivostok. We are interested in getting hold of anyone wanting to ship at the same time to share costs. Last year a friend shipped 4 bikes from Australia to Vlad for about $AUD5,000. I think we can do it a little cheaper.

Last year I rode from the UK to Vladivostok via Norway, Finland, Russia, Kazikstan and Mongolia, so sort of know the lay of the land.

Regards,
Chris.

Interested in riding from Vlad beginning of June 2010

Hi all. I just finished 7 1/2 months solo around South America, but by next year I'll definitely be ready for another bike adventure.

I'm off in 2 weeks to work in South Korea (teaching business at a university). I've heard it's actually quite easy to get self and bike to Vladivostok from there. I'll be working in Seoul until the end of May, then would be very interested in the ride (or at least part of it). I'm particularly interested in Mongolia.

Let's keep in touch.

Vlad to Europe

Hey Chris,

I made the ride from Inuvik to Ushuaia solo 2 Decembers ago, and last December I was invited to test ride an F800 gs, crisscrossing the Andes to Punta Arenas from Santiago, which I did. I would like to make the ride from Siberia to Europe but I would like to make it in 2 or 3 months as I still have a family at home. From what I hear, May might be early and June could be better. I just returned from the Horizons meeting in Nakusp B.C. where I talked with riders who had come from Europe to Siberia. When I went south, I rode a BMW 650 gs. For this ride, I have a new 2007 KLR650. What about you?

Erik

Russia 2010

Hey Val (& others),
It looks like this thread has possibly developed into a couple of groups leaving sometime in the first two weeks of June 2010. I am also in Sydney and have been talking to Chris C. about sharing a container and also to Erik about riding West. One party is talking about 6 weeks and the other more like 3 or 4 months.

Have you got a route in mind?

Regards,
Mark

Vladivostok to Europe - mid 2010

Hello Chris!

My name is Torgrim ( Tom ) and I'm from Norway. I traveled around Australia with my partner on two bikes in 07-08. Our plan was to go back to Europe through Russia and Mongolia. But just as we got to NZ we got the call from home with the with the message that my dad was very sick. We went home the same day!
Since then I have ben thinking about completing the trip. My partner has a good job now, and a dog, so I'll have to do the trip alone or with some one else.

So, I whould love to stay in touch and find out if we can do this trip together.

Cheers Tom
