West Africa - Sept/Nov
West Africa - Sept-Nov
I've been thinking that since a planned trip to Central Asia fell through that I really must get away this autumn - somewhere, anywhere.
I have a hankering to go back to West Africa and perhaps visit Mali this time.
Anybody interested in this venture?
Minimum 6 weeks - End Sept to November
Ferry to Spain
Ride through Spain
Ferry to Morocco
Down the west coast to Mauritania - want to see Atar this time
Then either Mali or Senegal
Mali - visa required - probably before departure
Mauritanian - visa required - Casablanca
Mostly hotels/hostels - not expensive
Road and piste
If all that fails then maybe a leisurely trip to the Middle East and Syria!

Hey petcul. I’m flying into Lisbon with my bike September 29 and entering Morocco in early October. See this thread … http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...cco-cape-32831
To sum up that thread, about four riders are planning to team up in Spain and/or Morocco, do some Morocco sightseeing and piste, and head to Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal I think, and Mali. From there some head south to Cape Town. No set agenda or route but playing it by ear and enjoying the adventure ~~

A small pointer about the visa:
Mauritania: Not in Casablanca but in Rabat, also it's easy to optain a 3days transit visa at the border, after that you can easily get an extention in Nouadhibou/Nouackchott and sometimes in Atar. According to this Thread it is, since a few months, possible to get a full visa at the border if you dare asking for it!
Mali: easy to get visa in Nouackchott and there are some threads here on the HUBB mentioning it should be possible to get one at the border.
Have a good time.
cheers (I have to wait a few more months).

Bart hi,
Got my Mauritanian visa two years ago in Casa. Simple and cheap.
Cheers.

Crossing paths
Hi,
I am a solo biker heading north that way (currently in Kinshasa making my ferry assault on Brazzaville first thing in the morning) and am trying my best to make it to Morocco by mid-October if my bike survives (and I survive).
Let me know what your travel schedule is and we can meet up for a .

Matt,
Looks like I'll be leaving about 01 Oct and in Morocco between 04 and whenever. First on the list will be the coastal route down to Rabat to get visas and then meandering around for a few days to end up in Sidi Ifni before heading down the coastal route to Mauritania.
Keep in touch. Beer sounds good

Currently in Nouakchott and heading to Atar in two days with Migo. Will be there for a few days and then back to Nouakchott before heading southeast to Mali. Anybody else around and heading that way?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
