Western Turkey, 23Dec12 to 04Jan13
Hi guys
This autumn/winter/next spring I’m doing a little tour in instalments around south-eastern Europe and western Turkey. In October I rode to Bulgaria and parked my bike at Doug’s in Idilevo. I’ll fly there on 22December and head towards Turkey on 23rd. I’ll probably head for the Black Sea coast at Burgas and then head south, ideally avoiding any snow.
I’m very likely to be in Istanbul for the Christmas period. For New Year, who knows?
I travelled through that wonderful part of the world in late 1999 and it’d be great to check out some old haunts ( Chapter 2 The Big Trip and Chapter 3 The Big Trip ) and ride some new roads, very likely to be hugging the coast where it might be a little warmer (?!)
Anyone in that part of the world and this time and want to drink a or cup of tea?
Cheers
Chris

Hi Mehmet
Many thanks for the reply. Celebrating New Year with your group sounds like a great idea.
From Istanbul, I'm likely to head south and stay close to the Agean and Mediterranean coast as far as Antalya, just because the weather might be warmer there. Higher ground and eastern Turkey is likely to be too cold or too far in the short time I have. I visited some of the major tourist sites like Ephesus on my last trip and I have no problem vsiting them again (with the exception of Troy that I found to be a big disappointment the first time), but I'm very flexible.
I like nice biking roads (rather than straight truck routes or motorways) and meeting friendly people. I'll have no problem with the later: On my previous trip, all the Turks I met were cool people.
I sent you a FB friend request today. Doug and Polly are in the United States at the moment, but Ivo and Harley will welcome me in December.
As you say, let's keep in touch.
Best Wishes
Chris

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
