Lightbulb Wisconsin to the West Coast then up to Canada and back east.

The plan is to ride From Madison, Wisconsin across to Washington State and then up into canada and back along the red route to Halifax (stopping earlier if i run out of time)

Many sights to be seen, Including the Badlands NP, Custer NP, Mout Rushmore, The Devils Tower, Yellowstone NP, Grand Tetons NP, Mount Saint Helens and the Pacific! As well as whatever I bump into along the way.

Setting off between August 29th and Sept 1st, and am catching a flight home from Toronto on the 20th of October.

Detailed route through the USA here

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...1124#post99361

Canada is still being planned, anyone who wishes to join me for any section of this ride is more than welcome. Any comments or suggestions you care to give are good too.

Thanks,
Joe

What bike are you going to go with after all? I am not familiar with the northern states, but travel is fairly easy no matter where you are in the states. As long as you can maintain a decent pace, the mileage you indicated is do-able. In two months, you should easily have the trip done, with time to spare. Look up member toowheels as I just saw him on the US/Mexico border. He and another member, Itani, were just going into Baja, Mexico for a few weeks, but he should be back home by the end of August. He lives in Vancouver, B.C., and could give you more detailed itinerary for at least the northern west coast of the US and Canada. (Itani lives in northern California if you change your plans a little bit to go there). Have fun, and ride cautiously.

Travel Tip

Sounds like a great trip. Would like to go along but I am taking the southern tier from east coast to west coast in July, then back east via the northern states in early-mid August so I can catch the Sturgis, SD rally on the way home.
A tip: Having done those states in late summer, I would recommend that you bring all the cold weather gear you have. September nights go down to freezing in the high plains and days are only half warm and half chilly, especially in the higher altitudes. Mountain snow can begin anytime in September. Last year I went through 6 inches of snow crossing the Rockies, much further south, in southern Colorado in late September.
Enjoy. >>> Doc

Thanks for posting! I've got a 1990 Honda XR250R with road legal kit, oversized tank and custom racks in the works. Along with some saddlebags (looks like it will be Andys Strapz panniers)

I 'should' be ok with the temperature at night, I have a thermarest and my sleeping bag is rated down to -12C comfort and something like 20 survival. I slept in it at a friends house recently and was way too hot! But I'll be sure to fix myself up with some good gloves - and maybe heated grips if my electrics can take them.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
