Having applied for my Kyrgiz and Kazahki visa via post I decided to get my pakistani Visa at the embassy. My Kyrgiz visa was incredibly fast took 1 day to get the visa by post. But not as fast as the Pakistani though.

Its a bizarre site, a huge party tent in the embassies garden in the middle of Knightsbridge and they also have a food catering and photocopy facillities as you need a extra copy of about everything you got with you even though you have got the original they wont copy it themself :confused1:.

I managed to get there quite early but to my disappoinment so had alot of other people the "party tent" opened at 10:00.

I gave my passport ,travel Initiary and a bank statement ( to prove Uk residency) he handed me a number token and send me of on a small adventure inside the embassy building. First you have to take your application to the visa application window , there another employee told me that I need a photo copy of my passport so I had to go outside and get one. Then I was sent to the counsolar attache for approval of my visa .

His office is on the second floor, he went through my paperwork very quickly did not ask me anything and scribled on the application paper and send me back to the application centre on the ground floor. Now here is were I did a mistake. I forgot to tell him how long I needed my visa for I assumed that ,like other visas, you automatically received a 1 months visa.

I only got 10days (hopefully its enough to get from Sost to Lahore and into India) well the upside of this was that the visa only cost £19+£2 bank charges and I was able to pick up my passport 2hrs and 45 minutes later in the party tent.

Cool, we're on our way down there in a few weeks so hope ours is that straightforward. How long is the visa valid for before entry ? and what other ID is ok to prove uk resedency, all my banking is done online so no statements !

We got our Pakistan visa from the Teheran Embassy in Aug 07. Can't remember how long the visa lasted for before entry, but this wasn't a massive issue for us as we were about to enter Pakistan in a couple of weeks anyway. I do remember that they only gave us 3 weeks (?) despite us asking for 2 months, and that when we queried this they said we could get an extension no problem once we were in Pakistan. This proved to be absolutely true - in fact it was so easy (and free) that we ended up wondering why they didn't just give us the 2 months to start with!

Interesting to see the remark about so many people turning up to apply for Pakistani visas though. The FCO will have a fit!

The visa is valid for 6 months, if you have a british passport you dont need to prove residency. I have a swedish passport and managed to find an old paper statement .

Just make sure to bring a travel initiary , a copy of your passport an fill out the form at home and two passport photos. Also they only accept cash. Make sure you arrive early, and have all the paperwork in order that saves alot of time and hassle.

Wished all the visas was this easy

When i went down i was told to go away and write a letter with my detailed itenery including dates. So go prepared with something similar if you don't want to make the trip twice.

The initiary is very simpel thing .

I just wrote that I was going to ride from uk o Australia adn that I will be passing Pakistan and then in To India. The main thing is that you write down some cities or palaces that you intent to pass through ,state a date of entry also place of entry and intended exit . Make sure to write down estimated time you intedn to spend in each place and also write down how long you wnat your visa for both on the initiary and the application.

To be honest I really dont think they even care what you write down on the initiary they just want it . So basically you could write down anything as long as it states some cities and dates on it.
