Hi mates, we just have crossed Iran and Pakistan.
Iran: Getting a 7 days-transit visa is easier than a tourist visa, but a transit will not be extended (like written in various travel guides). It was not possible for us to transit Iran in 7 days although the roads are great. It is a 3500 km journey after all. We had a lot of hassle trying to extend our transit visa.
Pakistan: We had a 15 day transit which is just enough to ride the Karakorum Highway and cross the country. However you have to put on some serious mileage as well. This is possible. We rode 4500 km in 15 days. We did not try to extend. The country is so interesting and has some lovely people that we think trying to get a tourist visa is worth it.
For both countries and India we needed a carnet de passage.
You need cash for both countries. Euros or US$ work fine. We had 1400 US$ for the four weeks and it was more than enough. We put down 500 $ each in our visa application and no questions were asked.
If you need more details please write.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
