Bike, No papers?
I have a question that someone may be able to shed some light on for me? I am looking at buying a '92 Africa Twin in Bali, Indonesia. The prob is as it is classed as a big bike it is there under a club and doesn't have any papers. If I get it, what do you think the chances of getting it out and continue riding around Asia are? Or to obtain a Carnet for it?
Cheers
Ivan

Hi Dingo,
God people must think I'm a Criminal sort...
Right I don't have contacts in Indy but ask around for dodgy paper work a local club might be able to point you in the right direction, there's always someone who knows someone. But make sure it's bloody good fake papaer work, otherwise you WILL have the bike taken off of you.
The Thais are all computered up now, so if it was Stolen from there you will get arrested at the border.
As for the Carnet NO WAY NOT EVER, if you don't have the papers you can't take it in to Malaysia, and Vietnam has a 125CC limit on imports so that's out as well.
I will add that if you go to Lucky Lucky (PP, Cambodia) like I told some people to do in my previous posts, he will sort you out and most probably with a much better bike.
Let me know what you end up doing and how it turns out.

Indo Bike
Lee,
Thanks for the info mate. I know that the bike is legal as it was owned by a dutch guy there and now he is selling it through this bike shop. Indo has the 125cc rule as well so that is why ppl are bringing big bikes in other ways.
The guy who owns the bike shop is the presedent of the big bike club and has an understanding with the local constaulary to alow these bikes in Bali. Apparently all the Harley's there are on the same deal?
I will have a chat to him when I get back and see what the go is. You know how Indo works, it all depends on cost........
Thx again
Ivan

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
