Brazilian Customs - Assistance Requested
A good friend of mine (an experienced shipper of commercial goods) booked a couple of containers to ship a couple of 4X4 trucks from South Africa to Brazil so that some overlanders could tour around South America.
Upon arrival in Brazil (Santos), the containers have been held up by customs and despite having the 4x4 owners having carnets, customs has come up with an additional list of requirements and has now demanded that each truck have a separate bill of lading and is demanding a few thousand dollar fine for a late manifest charge.
Any suggestions/experience in dealing with Brazilian customs or any customs broker contacts would be much appreciated. The travellers are trying to figure out a way to get their trucks back and the thought of paying a few thousand dollar fine that is much greater than the actual cost of shipping the trucks seems to be too hard to believe.
I've also sent a message to the Sao Paulo community to see if they can come up with any suggestions to help navigate/negotiate. Cheers.
