Hi
Regarding your concern the laws in Argentina isn’t complex, and maybe for the country are efficient in what to the government concern. Maybe for you (and maybe even for myself) looks like seemingly inefficient but therefore I would say better that maybe are "inconvenient" for what you pretend to do.
The tourist who brings a vehicle in to Argentina as a tourist have to take it out, the temporary import for that use isn’t transferable and is a compromise with the authorities that them have to agree and sign.
There aren’t the documents that the sellers and you will need in order to make a smooth exchange. There are documents that the driver/rider needs for get in, cross and take off your vehicle from the country:
-Title or Registration in your name
-International Driving License
-a 3rd Party mandatory Insurance from an Argentinean company or the “Carta Verde” Mercosur agreement.
-The Temporal Importation that Customs will issue at entry in your name.
To legally change registration you will have to ask to the specific register office where the vehicle is registered. They should be able to inform you what process its needs and if it’s possible to have it done abroad. You also could expect there complex and seemingly inefficient regulations (every country have it).
As explained ahead you will we be able to leave Argentina with the car only if you are the allowed on the TVIP, with a US license plate or any other one.
This subject has treated here a zillon times, as general advice for this: You have to make the transaction in other country or in “no man’s land” solving first the registry issue.
As additional tip bear in mind that usually many people recommend what they haven’t done and usually the ones that they had a bad experience fill embarrass to recognize it in public.
Saludos
