CAA Carnet countires
Hi,

I couldn't find an open thread for this, so...

I have just been getting the final polish done on my carnet with CAA (and the VERY helpful Suzanne Danis) and here is the info I got for the countires I want to visit.

For South America, Suzanne said that while the carnet isn't technically required, you could have losts hassles without one. If you are getting one anyway, add the SA countires- they don't cost extra and I think they will help my border crossings since they always seem to love paperwork!

So, once again, this is the CAA list and the reality on the ground may be different- especially in SA.

I went thru' the same thing with Suzanne and she suggested getting one for C&S America. From all the riders on here, and those that I have spoken to, all say that it is not needed. Seems weird why she continues to recommend people getting it.

Thanks for copying that list DRad and posting it.

Do you know what the 800% in Egypt is for? I know we only had the 55% you mention (our highest carnet country was Tanzania at 100% of the value of the bike). For UK residents I believe the amount they have to pay is much higher but even 800% sounds high.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
