Hi there,

I have just seen your response to the thread I posted (on the road and not checking this site often)and I went to your website listed at the bottom but couldn't find any details about motorbike insurance that you say you can offer.
Could you give some specific details please as there may be others interested in this info also.
I will be happy to know that next time I can insure for less and have the same coverage throughout UK and EUROPE as an Australian citizen with a UK registered bike.
Cheers
Christy

The price might still depend on other factors that you haven't mentioned herein - the amount of riding experience for example.

Did you need to have an IDP for this cover? (I don't particularly care what the answer is, but others may).

As a general point, UK insurance cover is becoming ever more "automated" in the sense that it is liinked into computer records - just the way of the world.
So, yes, they don't actually care where you are living/registering the bike so long as there is a UK address where the bike itself is deemed to be based - a UK postcode for that address then determines the statistics for how much chance there is that the vehicle would be stolen from that area, while parked outside at night, or parked on a drive way or, better still, parked in a garage.

Good to know that obtaining such insurance is still possible though.

ps Bikesure is a UK broker of course - they advertise fairly extensively in the UK motorcycle press.
IIRC, I have read somewhere that they are the specialist brokering arm of a bigger company but I can't remember which one (not that it matters to this thread, but that is the service that you are paying for).
Hey mister,

Sorry for delay in response - am on the road and not checking site so often.
In answer to your question - YES I do have a IDP (international driving permit) but insurance company didn't even ask for that.... They did ask for years of driving and riding experience which for me has been 20 years (and I have a HR license also which they noted).
The fella I spoke with was a motorbike enthusiast himself so he made the process as quick as can be!
And BikeSure underwrite for MAKERSTUDY LTD....
Still, theres got to be a cheaper way!!!
(I tried Doobys' - the fella who responded to my post - website for details/contact but no luck yet! Early days!)

Have a look at these people in Germany, Tourinsure, they customise Insurance to cover the whole of Europe as you want. looks good to me.

TourInsure: Europe

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
