Carnet UK to SA (East Route) - Should I add alternate route?
Hi All,
I am just about to write a substantial cheque to the RAC for my Carnet. We are traveling from Tunisia to South Africa down the east route (14 countries). When I applied for my quote a added an additional 11 countries to enable us to travel from Algeria down the west coast route as a back up if we were not able to get down the east route for any reason (voilence in Kenya etc). Do you thnk this is a good idea? My concern is that it takes up all pages in a 25 page carnet. Do I need spare pages? Am I being paranoid?
Many thanks,
Bruce

carnet
the carnet is blank and each page contains details of the vehicle etc..you present it as you arrive at a country so the countries you list are immaterial to the custom there ...you know about the problems of egypt and from memory its only excludes pakistan and india (but check that)
have a good trip

So does that mean you could buy a carnet without including Egypt but then turn up at the Egyptian border and get in?

Hi Ghenk,
Please list the countries you plan to drive through.
I presume your first will be Morroco?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
