chinese/russian visa
Hi,
In April 2005 I'll be going overland from Singapore to Europe. I have a couple of relatively straight forward questions about visas…
1. what’s the simplest way of getting a chinese visa?
2. What’s the easiest way of getting a Mongolian visa?
3. What’s the easiest way of getting a russian visa? I know there’s inivitations needed…
4. And, what about the ‘stans? How do you go about those?
I’m assuming that the carnet will be valid for china/Russian/Mongolia and the stans…
Thanks in advance.
Nick
PS I'm a little removed from embassies and the like (read PNG) and am hoping that a lot of this will be doable in Sinagapre/Malasia or Thailand

Hi Nick,
So many questions; so little time.
Visas are the easiest part of your planning. Find out the location of the nearest consulate, or embassy of the target country, phone them for information what you (identify yourself with your citizenship), must do to apply, and ask them to send application forms, or find out if you can download them. The problem is the bike. Russia and Mongolia no problem. But China is. Some have managed to sneek in without the official paperwork. But don't count on it to duplicate this. The official way is still to arrange for an escort in advance, who will do all the required paperwork for you for a tidy sum of money. Check the HUBB for the latest info on this. You arrange for the Chinese visa (easy); they will do the rest.

How does one go about getting a chinese tour escort? Can it be arranged that they just help at the border and then you go on your own way? :confused1:
If anyone has contacts in this department it would be greatly appreciated

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
