Chinese Visa for German Citizen

Hello,

I'm currently planning a motorcycle trip through China and Tibet together with a tour guide in China. Unfortunately, I'm still responsible for obtaining the Chinese visa, which proves to be rather complicated due to the plan to cross Tibet.

Does anyone know a good visa agency which has successfully helped with obtaining a visa for a German citizen traveling through China & Tibet?

Thanks for your help,
Joe GS

Hi Joe,
We used TAICO in Berlin. They were very good and much quicker than applying alone..
But to be honest , it's not difficult to get the visa. Your tour agency will provide you with an official visa letter as well as an itinerary including hotels.
It won't mention that you are on a bike and it won't mention that you are going to Tibet.
Make sure you don't mention this either (they don't ask in the form).
As a first timer for the Chinese visa I was happy to use an agency, especially as were nowhere near Berlin at the time. This week we got our second Chinese visa in Phnom Penh without an agency and it was really easy.
If you are going to china from Mongolia, it's also easier and cheaper to get the visa in ulan bataar.
All the best.
Helen

Thanks

Hi Helen,

Thanks for your reply and for the help.

I have a the LOI, but the itinerary of course leads through Tibet. Did you use a different itinerary that exits China somewhere else? Did you actually need to have all hotel rooms already booked or was the intended itinerary enough?

I will contact TAICO and see if they can help. How early before entering China did you apply for the visa?

Thanks,
Joe

Hi joe

Your agency should give you an itinerary that does not lead through Tibet. And it should have hotels already listed. If you are asked any questions by the embassy (doubt they will) you are doing the route listed on the itinerary made only for the purposes of showing it to the embassy.

Your agency will then organize the permits for you for entering Tibet, separately to your visa.

It's not a problem. The only problem you would have is if they 'close' Tibet for a while, which they do now and again both for foreigners and non-Tibetan Chinese. Then I'm afraid you won't get in and your guide will be obliged to reroute you.

Hope that helps.
Which agency in china are you using, just out of interest?
Which routing are you doing? Maybe I just send you our old one?!

Helen

Hi Helen,

Thanks for the quick reply.
I have received an LOI, but no itinerary which does not cross Tibet so far. We're going from Kashgar to Golmud to Lhasa to Nepal. The agency is call Kashgar Adventure Travel.
I would really appreciate if you could send me the itinerary you used.

Thanks a lot,
Jochen
