Copy ID cards?
Hi,
Where or how can I make copies of ID? Tried 2 stores and they said no or only black and white copies. And how many? Thanks.

In USA, it is illegal to make a color copy of your passport. If you go to a Kinkos-type place, they give you unsupervised access to their machines...

Here is a suggestion:
Scan (in Hi-res color) all your travel documents (passport, title, drivers licence, credit cards, insurance docs, etc.) into a computer. Then open a free web-based email account (eg. Yahoo) just for this. That gives you up to 100 MB of free storage online. Next, email yourself to this account all these scanned documents as attachments and just let them sit in the inbox folder until you need them. If you ever should need copies during your trip, you can log into your free web-based account from anywhere in the world and print them out a copy in color (i.e. at any internet cafe, or even the embassy, along the way.) Should you lose all your documents, the embassy will be happy that you are able to prove who you are, given the circumstances.
BTW, the prohibition to copy these documents (passport, citizenship papers, etc) is not enforced at all, unless you try to counterfeit them for someone else.
There is nothing to lose, and it is very safe. I have done it for years on all my trips.

Very good idea storing copies of your important documents online. However, I encrypt mine with a strong passphrase using PGP. That way, if the files fall into the wrong hands they can't access the content...
If you create self-decrypting archives you don't need any software to open them.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
