Crossing into Thailand from Cambodia. Onward ticket required.???

Have read here that crossing into Thailand, you need to have onward ticket booked in order to get a visa on arrival in Thailand...

Tales of Asia - Overland - Pailin - Reports

Anyne any experience of this? Ways round it?

Also is the Pailin border open to foreigners crossing on motorcycles into Thailand from Cambodia?

Cheers,

Nick (MotoNick.com)

Thumbs up No tickets required from Laos.

My information is not exactly what you asked for, but I crossed from Thailand into Cambodia and back into Thailand from Laos in Feb this year. No problem and no visa or onwards tickets required.

I was there about six months ago and never had any issues going in either direction in regards to onward tickets. That said the borders between Thailand and Cambodia are famously hassley, particularly the Arunyaprathet (Thai) - Poipet (Cam) crossing. I had plenty of hassles there: people trying to rip me off, selling dodgy visas and currency etc etc. Keep your wits about you.

In jan this year, I went to get my boarding pass and they would not let me on the flight unless i eaither had a outward bound tickets or a visa.

I could not wait another day in order to obtain my visa in the city as my bike was already in thailand airport waiting for me. so i brought a outward bound ticket that i could return and get most of my money back. I think i lost about $100.

I would get the visa - saves any problems at the last second.

Earlier this year they decided to enforce their exsisting visa laws. Last year I had no problems jumping over the border to get renewals. I have not been this year but have heard you can only stay for a maximum of 90 days per year ( 3 x 30 days) and onward travel tickets are required.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
