Delhi-Istanbul, carnet ?
Hey there,
I plan to do this trip this summer. I'll buy the bike in India, and will get an ownership certificate because I have an adress in Delhi.
Do I need a carnet to cross India-Pakistan and Pakistan-Iran boarders ?
Can I get one in Delhi as a non Indian ?
Thanks,
Marco

hi,
unfortunatley it`s not possible to get a carnet for a indian registered bike.
normally, you need a carnet for Pakistan and Iran, but some guys already managed it, to go without it ( a lot of hassle, especially at the pak border - read: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tstories/davenport/index.php,
last year i met an australian guy, who drove from europe to india without carnet - after 2 days negotiations, he was allowed to enter Iran, same on the Irani-Pak border, but he had to pick up the bike on a truck through Pak and the indian border was a in the end a terminus-no way to enter India)
a way out would be to buy a bike in nepal - look here http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...871#post187175

hi there,
i think the only chance u have to obtain the carnet, is to ask it for at your
national automobil club. you'll must to send all the papers there, and try to start the request. probably it will take you a lot of days, but i repeat, it should be the only way you can do.
i suggest u to looking for an insurance policy, wich avoid u to move a lot of money as a bank bond.
i'd sign it up one last year in italy wich allowed me to hold 15,000 eu. i haven't...
insurance policy it cost me 200eu. and i'd payed 160eu. for the carnet itself.
but i was in italy, 1 month it occurred me (in summer).

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
