Differences: Carnet de passage en Douane / Green Card / International Insurance

I'm reading and reading and I'm still a bit confused with these 3 documents and when are they needed. I think this is information may be useful for other travelers - once I understand the difference of course!
  1. Carnet de Passage en Douane (CPD): this is like the passport for your motorbike, you need this yes or yest for almost every country. In the UK RAC doesn't issue it, I'm still investigating how to get this.
  2. Green Card: I understand this is like a minimal insurance for certain countries.
    Question: if you have a separate insurance that covers for that country, do you still need the Green card?
  3. International insurance cover: you need this if you are travelling outside the countries of the Green Card, is this correct?

Is there another document I would need for my bike? I though I would need the a vehicle registration card or something? basically a document that shows I am the owner of that bike.

I assume you are from the UK with you mention the RAC, putting location in your info would help be more area specific answers for most questions

Carnet is used for talking your Vehicle in to certain countries, have a look at this

There is a lot on this site, search the threads

Green Cards are not issued by some insurers anymore (I know CN don't do them on their policies, its all built in to normal policy) But they were/are a green piece of paper (in most cases) that basically gave you an extension of your UK insurance in some countries in mainland Europe. Sometimes you had to pay extra, sometimes it was free for so long

Never heard of International insurance (but it might be available?), most folk just buy insurance at borders if not covered by their insurance company

As for other Docs, I carry my V5 and MOT if issued, I always try to carry an IDP as well as my normal licence but thats just me

I didn't know that you could buy the insurance at the borders, thanks!

The official list of countries that require a carnet is not the same as the list of countries that actually do, usually some are listed as requiring them but have dropped the requirement. If you are riding RTW you will almost certainly need one but all information is here somewhere.
What do you mean by international insurance, for yourself as in medical insurance or for your bike? Your UK insurance will cover you in the EU but outside it has to be bought at the border when you enter a country. There is such a thing as a comessa which is insurance for multiple countries in Africa, sometimes called a yellow card.

Thanks mark, for some reason I thought you would need a motorbike insurance for all the countries you are visiting.
