Hi Gregory
Yes I've done it going from Sudan into Egypt.
It is possible but a word of warning be prepared to spend a lot of time in customs going in and out. It took me 5 days to get in and Ithinks it was 4 to get out. At first they point blank refused to let the bike in but after a bit of pleeding to their good nature of which there is very little. They said the I had to five then in cash Egyptian Pound the value of the bike which they establish by looking at it so if you go this route make your bike look as shitty as possible. Once handing over the cash they said I would get it all back when I left Egypt and I did. Well almost all of it. You will all so have to change you number plate for an Egyptian one which is another cost. In total it cost me US$1750 to get in and when I left I got about US$1350 back.
From My Experiance I would Highly recomend getting a carnet
Cheers
