Export of bike from UAE
Hi,
I'm currently living in the UAE but am heading back to Europe in late March. I'm not very keen on selling my UAE registered bike and so am looking to either:
1. Ride it back (via Iran, Turkey etc).
My main issue with this is that I no longer have a UAE resident's visa (I left my job early this year and the visa was cancelled) and since I want to take the bike off the UAE register to re-register in Europe presumably I'll have to export it from the UAE (get the necessary export plates, etc) before I leave the UAE?
If so, then I'm guessing the UAE government is going to be too keen on giving me a carnet (needed for Iran). Can you get a carnet for a bike with export plates/a bike that is being exported from the UAE?
OR
2. Ship it back (boring, but my wife prefers it!).
The easiest option as, I presume, the shipping company will help me take the bike off the UAE register (get the necessary export plates, etc) and ship the thing back to Europe. Is the fact that I no longer have a resident's visa likely to be an issue do you think?
Any thoughts gratefully received.
As an aside is my lack of resident's visa likely to invalidate my UAE insurance policy?!
Ta,
Peter
