Extended visa for South AfricaI

Hi All
I landed in Cape Town a couple of days ago with the idea of 6 months riding around South and East Africa. I was give the standard 90 day visa which was fine as I will be here for a month before heading North to Kenya returning to South Africa in March. I assumed I would get another 90 day visa on my return but have now been informed that its not possible .
I am now going to try and get a 90 day extension , what is the best way , at border when I leave or spend the day at the the Home Affairs office in Cape Town now or just wing it and see what happens , all part of the adventure!

Regards

Gareth

If that is the case then things have radically changed in the last 3 years. We had no problems getting new visa's when re-visiting ZA during our last 6 month trip to the southern African countries. On our final entry into the country before returning home they did ask how long we were staying and on being told the date of our flight home they gave us 7 day visas.

I once tried with an exit to Botswana but as I reentered SA at the same border only hours from my exit (I know, stupid) it was a bit obvious and only got three days ;-)
My mistake.. heard it does work if you leave for a week at least and re enter from another border.
Anyway, overstaying my visa only meant 100usd of fine the next time I entered SA.
No biggy
A.

Hi,

Unfortunately our government has started playing silly buggers when it comes to visas. You can take look at this page, and maybe it will answer some of your questions.

Cheers,
Neels

Why not just cross the border into a neighbouring country for a few days?

Hi Margaret!
They change the law earlier this year, and as i understand, i needed to fly to my country of origin, that's the way they solwing problem of illegal workers from Africa mainly and force them to fly home (country of origin), but few lads flew to Dubai and that was ok.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
