Free advice - worth every penny you paid for it.

Nothing wrong with a CX500 - owned one 25 years ago, sold it after 4 years and then saw it again last year in pretty much the same condition I sold it in.

Anyhow..

If you ride within the EU - you don't need visa's, just your driving doc's, EU medical card and a passport valid for at least 6 months after you intend to return.

I would also suggest that full EU breakdown cover would be a good idea, if you haven't already got it on your insurance.

Other than that.. just do it.

If you ride in France (which you no doubt will if your start from Cornwall) remember to slow down through villages. Not sure if it still applies, but a rule of thumb was the police don't worry too much outside the villages but get rightly concerned if you speed through the small places.

How short is short ?

There are plenty of people doing European trips this summer - I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you tagged along. Depends how much time / money you have.

You will need a visa for Russia and the non-EU countries beside Eastern Europe. Some of these must be arranged well in advance I believe.

You should also check what documentation is required for your bike in each country you intend to travel through. Check that the dates on all documents covers the time you will be in the country for.

There is a paperwork section in the PLANNING area of this website that gives country guides but you should also check if there have been changes made to the requirements in recent years/months.

Have fun.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
