Frontier Insurance, is it a "Green Card"?

I'm taking a bike into Turkey, and their website states that vehicles must have green card insurance. Is the Frontier Insurance, issued by ADAC in Germany ( I've heard its pink!) the same thing. Has anybody used it to get into Turkey? Will Turkey require a green ( or pink) card to get in or can insurance be purchased at the border?

I've got comprehensive insurance (UK) but the company won't issue a green card. I can buy frontier insurance in Germany @ 110 euro per month, which I'll do if I have to.

advice please.

Strange that your insurance will not issue a green card - or do you mean green card for just Turkey? If the latter, then no surprise - it is outside our trading/political block. Maybe the Germans on this list can tell you if their frontier insurance covers Turkey.

If all else fails then you can buy insurance in Turkey from their Automobile Association. I did it. I seem to recall it was about 25 dollars. They have a nice new building and helpful staff.

The UK is weird with the Green Card. They don't seem to understand (or want to), that the more "minor" countries if i can call them that, want to see a GREEN bit of paper in the right format and it must also have the list of countries for which it is valid on the back.

It strikes me they only want to cover EU member states and not all the countries subscribed to the Green Card system of THIRD PARTY LIABILITY. Currently 43 I think.

Cheaper to buy as you go if you only want TPL...

The ADAC insurance gives you a GC and it IS green. However, unless they have raised prices by 400% you should only have to pay 22 Euro / month. I can't remember whether it covers TR, but I do remember that at the time I bought it (8/2006) it didn't cover RO and BG. The latter must have changed since they have joined the EU since.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
