Question Getting rid of a motorbike in Chile / Argentina

I'm traveling in South-America and the plan was to ship the bike back to The Netherlands when the trip was over. Now I'm thinking that this will not be financial reasonable.

This is why I would like to know if it's legally possible to leave a bike in Chile or Argentina (I'm not sure where the trip will end). My plan is to take some parts off the bike (the parts which I can sell back home for some good money) and leave the rest here. I don't expect to get money for the bike when I leave it. So a junkyard would do fine as long as I get the paperwork done.

Hello there,

if you want to end your journey near BsAs just leave the bike (or the rest of it) at La Posta del viajero en moto in Azul (300kms South of BsAs).

Another traveler or local will use the bike or parts.

Customs and immigration are not connected (as far as I know) in Argentina, so you wont have any problems leaving the country without the bike. Dont leave your bike in Chile, because customs and immigration are working together there (as far as I know).

What kind of bike is it? I am in Buenos Aires and am looking to buy a bike soon. Maybe we could work something out if the details are right.

It's a Yamaha XT600E from 2000, with about 40.000kms on it (when I'm in Buenos Aires).

She runs like a beauty.

The bike has many upgrades, here are a few:
- a KTM front fork (which was completely rebuild when I left home)
- a WP rear shock (which was completely rebuild when I left home)
- luggage racks
- ortlieb soft panniers (which have seen a lot of kms, but are still going (one buckle has snapped, but is still usable)
- excel rims with stronger spokes (new when I left home), the rear is a 18 inch now
- the seat is higher (about 1,5 inch)
- acerbis gas tank (23l)
- renthal high handlebar
- airtech sponge air filter (wash-able)
- CRD bash plate
- trailtech voyager
- acerbis handguards
- center stand
- stainless exhaust (full system)
- carb's are adjusted on a dyno
- I'm probably forgetting a thing or two

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
