Arrrgh - would someone tell me categorically what exactly the Green Card is? What does it entitles you to? Does it come as standard with your international insurance?

A green card is proof of 3rd party insurance in countries named on it. The law changesd in about 2003 and UK insurance now covers yopu across all eec countries and the green card (not green in colur) entitlement will be printed on the reverse of your insurance certificate. Read it and if it does not list all the countries you are going to then call your insurer and get them to ammendity. Usally former CIS states and the likes of Morocco and Tunisa are not covered. This may cost you more.
Check the cover you will get abroad with your insurers as it can vary from country to country. I wasd insured 3rd party only in Morocc but fully comp else where.
Hope this helps
Charlie

Hi All,
I have talked with my insurance company today (Bennetts) and they told me that my current insurance certificate cover all EU contries (no green card is required for EU) but not non-EU's. They'd also told me that they cannot issue insurance certificate for non-EU like Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia and Macedonia. When I mentioned about green card thay said that they don't do green card eihter.
I'll ride to Turkey from the UK. Questions are:
1-How can I get insured for these non-EU contries?
2-Do I have to change my insurance company?
3-If yes, which company do you recommend?
3-If no, can I get an insurance from other companies?
Regards

I would investigate changing insurer to one that issues yiou with the Green Card.
If not, you can get GC at any ADAC office in Germany, 22€/month.
Or, you buy the required policies at the borders. If they are required they need to offer them...

Greencard insurance
Aussies beware! greencard insurance for europe is available from Arisa Assurances (Luxembourg) for 22Euros per month. After contacting them by email I was asked to deposit 44euros (for 2 months cover) by direct deposit into their bank account. I did so and the money was transferred and deposited less 12.5euros, they then requested that I send another 12.5euros to cover the initial cost. After 3 or 4 fruitless attempts with my local bank to find out why there was a shortfall in payment, I was told that the bank that I transferred the money to must have taken out a fee. Upon checking with Arisa Assurances they assured me that their bank didn't take out any fees. I placed a phone call to international banking here in Australia and was told that there are only a few banks that accept transfers from Australia and they then transfer the money (minus their fee) to the allocated bank. The banks here in Australia are unable to inform us what the fee will be. So I then had to transfer another 25euros (expecting another fee of 12.5euros) to Arisa. The staff at Arisa Assurance were very efficent, helpful and patient. Also the greencard insurance arrived by mail to me in Australia within a few days of the second payment being received.
