HELP - problems with a second carnet in South Africa!!!
Hi - I am in Cape Town, and was planning to visit Namibia to change my UK current carnet with the new one, but I have just found that only Zimbabwe or Mozambique will allow me a stamp in the carnet, as a result of customs agreements between Namibia, Botswana and South Africa.
Dirving to Namibia and back was only going to cost be c. GBP 200, but going to Zim and Back (the shortest route) is going to cost over GBP 500!!!!!!!!!!
Does anybody have any suggestions or solutions?
Is there a cheaper way? My carnet runs out on 8th Oct, and I have the new one already. HHHHEEEEEEEELLLLLLP!

I'd go and see the Customs guys in Cape Town. They handle people shipping in and out of the country by sea and will be use to carnets, so should be able to samp twice, once out and onec in on the aproprate carnets. They are people after all and should be able to see the common sense in it. .

Hi People, I had a not disimilar problem earlier this year when I went from South Africa to Botswana to renew my SA visa. For some reason the customs at the SA side of the Botswana border stamped my carnet and no one at the Botswana border would stamp me in as it was all part of the customs union, same into Namibia and back into SA. All said the same thing, customs at Cape Town or Durban will sort It. And that is just what happened, finest case of the buck stopping somewhere ever, go see the man. Ride safe.
